INERRANT laser-modified anodes showcased at Graphene Week 2026
INERRANT partner PLEIONE presented recent project developments at Graphene Week 2026, highlighting progress towards scalable, high-performance anodes for lithium-ion batteries.
Konstantinos Mylonas from PLEIONE presented the poster “Industrial-scale Laser-modification of Graphene and Graphitic Anodes for High-Capacity and Fast-Charging in Lithium-Ion Battery Cells.” The work, jointly developed with project partner FORTH, investigates the use of laser processing to modify graphene and graphitic anodes at industrially relevant scale.
The approach creates microscopic channels in the electrode structure that provide low-resistance pathways for lithium-ion (Li⁺) transport, while preserving electrical conductivity and structural stability. By facilitating ion transport through the electrode, the technology aims to support high-capacity batteries capable of operating at high charge and discharge rates.
Within INERRANT, this work contributes to the development of roll-to-roll processed laser-modified anodes, connecting advanced electrode design with scalable manufacturing processes.
The next step will bring the technology closer to cell-level validation: the modified electrodes will be integrated into 5 Ah prototype pouch cells, combining materials developed within INERRANT with industrial manufacturing procedures.
Presenting the work at Graphene Week 2026 provided an opportunity to share INERRANT’s progress with the European graphene and advanced materials community and demonstrate how the project is working to translate innovative battery materials and processing technologies towards larger-scale applications.
