From Research to Reality: Scaling Battery Innovation with Verkor

What does it take to build safer batteries at gigafactory scale? In this episode, Donia Marzougui and Yannick Molméret from Verkor take us inside the EU-funded INERRANT project and explore how innovative battery materials, smart separators, responsive electrolytes, and eco-friendly recycling processes are helping reduce safety risks such as thermal runaway – while improving performance and circularity. The conversation also highlights Verkor’s role in bridging research and industry, from defining material specifications and scaling up production to preparing for gigafactory-scale manufacturing.

Next-Generation Energy: Batteries for Spatial Apps and Electric Mobility with GRAPHERGIA

Why are lithium-ion batteries so central to today's energy transition? For this second episode we joined forces with the GRAPHERGIA project. Together we dive into the topic of how European researchers are advancing sustainable energy through the development of next-generation lithium-ion batteries enhanced with graphene and other innovative materials. Hosted by Spyros Yannopoulos, our INERRANT coordinator and Research Director at FORTH, the conversation brings together Dorela Hoxha, Materials and Processes Engineer at Pleione Energy and Katrien Boonen, PhD Student at UJEP, for a discussion on the challenges current battery technologies are facing and how to improve safety, performance, and sustainability for applications in space and electric mobility.
